Glitter adds a brilliance and sparkle to card making, scrapbooking and clear rubber stamping projects. It only takes a small amount to add shimmer to your hobby crafts and ideas.

There are a number of ways to add glitter to your clear rubber stamping projects. Choose from the methods below to add glimmering highlights to your art projects.

    Floral Glitz Card

    GLITTERING HEAT EMBOSSING

This is a fun technique that is probably simpler than it sounds. Begin by stamping your design in embossing ink, then heat emboss it with clear embossing powder. At this point you may wish to rub some ink over the design to create a negative effect which causes the design to stand out. Next, prepare your glitter to be poured quickly upon the design. Using your heat embossing tool, heat the clear embossed image a second time and immediately dump the glitter upon it while it is soft. You may press it in a little if desired.

Fluttering WingsUSING DOUBLE SIDED TAPE TO ADD SHIMMER

This technique is ideal for adding horizontal and vertical lines to your card making and scrapbooking projects. Simply place the tape across the page or card as desired, then pour your glitter on it, Return unused glitter to the jar. You now have a glistening line to enhance your hobby art.

Glitter glue is basically glue with glitter in it. It dries clear allowing the glitter to catch the light. Be cautious using glitter glue over stamped designs. When you use a pigment based rubber stamping ink, it has a water base and the glitter glue, when placed upon and image stamped with this ink, will bleed a little and lose some of its crispness. Glitter glue is best used to enhance your overall project, and is great in shadows, or just beneath lines you have stamped.

Glitter Stamping on a CanisterSTAMPING WITH GLITTER

This is a technique ideal for use with clear rubber stamps. You must use a glue pad, which looks much like an ink pad, but it is loaded with glue specifically for rubber stamping crafts. Load your clear stamp in the glue pad the same as you would an ink pad and stamp. Pour glitter upon the area you stamped and the image will appear. It is easy to rub the glitter off the design, so secure it to the paper by spraying with a clear sealer meant for use on paper. You may need more than one coat to secure your glitter in place.

    Sparkling Snowman SilhouetteSPRAY GLITTER

Glitter spray comes in a can and is very similar to a clear sealer, the only difference is that it contains tiny, shimmering, pieces of glitter. When you spray it on a project, it adds iridescent sparkle. This is great for creating glistening backgrounds or twinkling foreground elements. It is also ideal for a completed craft that you want to have gleam.

    TRADITIONAL GLITTER APPLICATION

Curving lines or solid areas are also easy to add to rubber stamping and paper craft projects in the traditional way. Simply run a fine bead of liquid glue on your paper and add glitter. To cover larger areas, just brush the liquid glue on and dust with glitter. Be sure to wash your brush when you are done.

Adding glitter to rubber stamping, scrapbooking and card making crafts is a great way to let your personality sparkle throughout the project, and create a 'made for you' look that is all your own.
